TRACY CRUZ

WHO ARE SOME OF THE SINGERS THAT INSPIRED YOU GROWING UP?

When I was young girl, I was completely inspired by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. I was fascinated with their incredible vocal range and effortless versatility. As I got older, I started listening to Monica, Lauryn Hill, Sarah Vaughan, Donny Hathaway, Chaka Khan, and Ledisi. I loved their powerful voices and enjoyed listening to their heartfelt ballads. I'm currently inspired by Jill Scott, Amel Larrieux, Lalah Hathaway, Kenny Wesley, Deborah Bond and several independent Soul artists.

WHEN DID YOU DECIDE THAT YOU SERIOUSLY WANTED TO PURSUE A CAREER IN MUSIC?

I decided to seriously pursue a career in music back in 2005, when I released my EP "Illuminate Love". A lady sent me a message on MySpace, thanking me for creating "Struggle". She told me that she was able to finally let go of her pain and cry. I was extremely moved by her honest words. From then on, I wanted to create music that brought joy to people's lives. I wanted to inspire people through my music.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN SINGING?

I have been singing since I was two years old and performing since I was 12.

WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAY LIKE FOR TRACY CRUZ?

In the morning, I spend time social networking and doing some online music promotions. I also answer emails, record radio drops, and set up interviews. During the afternoon, I spend time with my children, run errands, clean, cook, and practice (singing, writing, and performing). At night, I spend time with my husband and children.

WHO HAVE YOU WORKED WITH SO FAR AND WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO WORK WITH IN THE FUTURE?

I have worked with my husband Allen Ross (he is the sole music producer of all my albums). Of course, he is my favorite music producer! :)  I have also worked with many talented musicians and singers from California such as Kenny Corso (guitar), Michael Thomas (bass), Kahiel Valenti (guitar), Julian Hoover (guitar), Brian Braziel (drums), Signatural (Christian Hip Hop artist), Bernardo Sapitola (trumpet), Lonnye Dotson (R&B vocalist), Yvette Pylant (R&B/Soul vocalist), Shani Douglas (R&B singer), Anthone Jackson (R&B singer) and many more. I would love to work with DJ Jazzy Jeff, Jill Scott, or the Foreign Exchange.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOU MUSIC TO SOMEONE THAT HASN'T HEARD ANY OF YOUR SONGS?

I would describe my music as heartfelt, eclectic, and a blend of soulful, electronic, and symphonic sounds.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE FOR PEOPLE TO GET FROM YOUR MUSIC?

I want my music to touch the core of their hearts. I want them to be moved by the lyrics and sounds. I want them to be able to listen to it and get inspired, dance, cry, laugh, shout, sing, and celebrate. I just want to make people happy through my music! ;)

WHATS THAT ONE SONG THAT WHEN YOU HEAR IT YOU STILL GET CHILLS?

I always get chills whenever I hear "Make Me Whole" by Amel Larrieux. Her voice is incredibly beautiful and soothing and her lyrics are poetic and passionate.

SLUMPRITTY

WHO/WHAT WOULD YOU SAY INFLUENCES YOUR MUSIC?

This might sound cliche but everyday life influences my music. The good bad and ugly of life propels me to write a song. As far as artists, the moment i heard "C.R.E.A.M." by the Wu Tang Clan it inspired me to write and wanna pursue music.

TELL ME A LITTLE BIT ABOUT TRU CHEMISTREE.

My brothers, man. Tru Chemistree consists of yours truly, Elogik Supreme, and Sun Eye Divine. We started out around '03-'04 when we was known as ELOHSEE (Elevating.Lyrical Opportunity Hoping Success Evolves Eternally).  We're all individual artists with our own distinctive styles. But when we form voltron its just a sound like none other. We all strive for greatness each time out lyrically. We also stand for righteousness and keeping ya eyes up not being blind to the facts. And as emcees we use our mic time ACTUALLY delivering a message..

HAVE YOU COLLABORATED WITH ANY OTHER NORTH CAROLINA ARTIST?

Yeah i've collaborated with a couple local Greensboro cats but really for the most part i keep that in house. When u have two heavyweights on ya team i really don't feel that much of a need to. Not saying i wouldn't but it just hasn't happened yet. I represent NC Hip Hop to the fullest.

DO YOU PLAY VIDEO GAMES? IF SO WHAT KINDA GAMES YOU LIKE AND WHAT SYSTEM DO YOU HAVE?

Yeah not allday everyday but yeah i got the 360. I mostly play sports games Madden, NBA2k12, Fight Night, UFC

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE TEBOW PHENOMENA?

He's winning right now. It aint the most beautifullest thing in this world, but he makes it happen. He got his team in the playoffs, I don't think its gonna last but hey who am i to say. I aint think he would get past the wild card...<THIS WAS BEFORE THE BRONCOS GOT THEY ASS BEAT LOL : ) SORRY DENVER

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE PEOPLE TO GET FROM YOUR MUSIC?

Hear a nigga out. Just take a journey with me. I got a real broad sound. Stay tuned into this rhyme style i call Slick Minded Consciousness. If your a fan of lyrics and flipping styles, rhyme patterns etc, take a ride wit me

HOW FAR WOULD YOU LIKE TO GO WITH YOUR MUSIC?

As long as my lungs can permit, honestly. I'm obsessed with hip hop as a whole and the art of writing the right record. So yeah as long as I'm here in this crazy world...

ARE YOU MAKING MUSIC TO SHOW THAT YOU HAVE THE ABILITY OR DO YOU PLAN TO SEE HOW FAR YOU CAN GO WITH IT?

I'm in this for the longevity and to create a legacy that surpasses the time that I'm here. I feel as a true emcee that's what you should in this for. Not a couple hits and disappear. Naw, not I....

HOW DO YOU FEEL YOU'VE CHANGED FROM UR FIRST PROJECT TO YOUR MOST RECENT?

The first project was really more of a coming out party for me. We were on hiatus from making music as a unit. And i just went in. This time around I'm pushing myself even more and starting to cement my legacy. Its more politically aware then previous. Lyrically i've grown alot, more mature lyrically but still daring at the same time...I'm hitting you from all angles this time around. You don't know which way the haymaker's coming from lol But its coming

HOW IS IT BEING SOLO?

Its cool, i love rocking with the crew and i still do everyday. We're still connected and always will be. Its even better this time around because we have more ways to fuck peoples heads up....

MOKA ONLY

Moka Only (aka Daniel Denton) spent his early days developing his graffiti skills in Victoria, BC, before trading in his paint cans for a mic. Having found his true calling, he rhymed non-stop at house parties and anywhere he could find ears. After a brief stint in San Diego, Moka rooted down in Vancouver, where he established himself as the Canadian hip-hop icon he is today. Known by a bevy of aliases (Ron Contour, Flow Torch, Durable Mammal) Moka boasts a resume of collaborations even longer, including J Dilla, Aceyalone, OH NO, MF Doom, Buck 65, K-Os, and Sixtoo. He spent some time in the group Len, with other notable group projects including Swollen Members, Souls of Mischief and Living Legends.Historically a lyricist, Moka has also developed a signature production style proven infectious and highly sought-after, ultimately making him a wildly innovative and successful solo artist.
