FIVESTEEZ

WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU WANT PEOPLE THAT AREN'T YET FANS OF YOUR  MUSIC TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?

- I want them to know that I'm really about this art form and my people and that's what you'll get from listening to the music. It's new millennium boom bap Hip Hop. Definitely reminiscent of the golden era but with a new flare and a unique Kingston perspective, giving you a different reality and mindset than what you're used to.
WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?

- My musical influences range from Reggae greats such as Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Barrington Levy and more to Marvin Gaye to James Brown. In terms of Hip Hop, lots of rappers have influenced me. Among them are Nas, Rakim, Cormega, AZ, Wu Tang, Black Star, Big Pun, 2Pac, Biggie, Big L, Big Pun, Canibus, Dead Prez and the list goes on.
WHO/WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

- I'm inspired by life and all the possibilities it holds. Much of my music reflects my own experiences and that of my peers... whatever's on my mind and whatever's going on around me and my city. So I tend to draw from that and whatever my imagination conceives, which is usually somehow rooted in what I already know. Naturally, I'm inspired by some of the same artists that influenced me and nowadays, I find I'm more inspired by some of my musical peers that I work with. Some of them have been contributing to my album as producers and as artists.

WHO TAUGHT YOU ONE OF THE MOST VALUABLE LESSONS IN LIFE?

- Marcus Garvey and Malcolm X taught me to seek knowledge, especially of yourself. And that's probably the most important lesson I've ever gotten and can ever give to someone else.
WHY DO YOU LOVE MUSIC?

- I think it's biological for humans to love music. Our brains react to it in a certain way. I can't really explain it but music moves me. I've noticed that whenever there's music, as long as I'm not occupied by some activity, I can't help but to nod my head or tap my feet... even if I'm not necessarily liking what I'm hearing. It just moves me. And I love the fact that we can add lyrics to it. That just makes it even more powerful and that seals it for me as to why I love this thing.

IF YOU COULD PICK 3 ARTISTS PAST OR PRESENT TO WORK WITH WHO WOULD YOU PICK?

- Barrington Levy because of his voice. Rakim 'cause that's the god. And Sade or Erykah Badu... I can't pick between the two but I know we could cook up sumn magical.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE: COOL LAID BACK, IN YOUR FACE, CONSCIOUS?

- I think it's a blend of all of that. A nice healthy balance.

IF YOU HAD TO WORK A 9-5 WHAT WOULD YOU SEE YOURSELF DOING?

- I don't even see myself in a 9-5 even though I've done it before. I guess I'd be doing something in which I'm academically qualified... and that would be something along the lines of journalism, communication, public relations or something. Maybe marketing. That may be a better fit for me.
HOW LONG YOU BEEN RAPPIN?

- Since late 2002 when I was 16, I've been rapping consistently for 8 years. And for about 5 years before that, I dabbled here and there... doing some writing and later experimenting with recording.

WHEN DID YOU REALIZE YOU LOVED MUSIC MORE THAN THE AVERAGE PERSON?

- It's hard to pin point a specific moment but throughout my teens, I just knew this was the one thing I truly loved more than anything else. And I still feel the same way.
